PANCRUDO 2013, SELECTED BY FUERA DE SERIE AS PART OF THEIR WINE CELLAR FOR THE GREAT WINTER

The lifestyle publication designates this village wine of Gómez Cruzado as one the year's most notable

Haro, 5th November.- FUERA DE SERIE, the weekly supplement published by the economic journal EXPANSIÓN, has selected in a special issue PANCRUDO 2013 as part of their “Great Winter” wine cellar which consists of wines to accompany us through the cold months. “Winter is indeed the perfect companion for the wine lover”, explained wine critic Federico Oldenburg, who supervised this special selection.

Oldenburg blind tasted the selected wines with a panel of specialists: journalist Harold Heckle, restaurateur Alberto Fernández Bombín, sommelier Dovile Krauzaite from the restaurant Punto MX, and Valentín Checa from Lavinia.

This lifestyle publication also notes that PANCRUDO is the debut wine from GÓMEZ CRUZADO´s Terrior Collection, which heralds in a new era at this century-old winery located in Haro’s Barrio de la Estación. “It’s generous in fruit, sweet and succulent. Few would imagine that it is a Rioja red” commented English journalist Harold Heckle.

FUERA DE SERIE´s selection comprised 50 Spanish wines, 25 of which were designated this year’s most notable -including PANCRUDO- and 24 other well-respected brands.

Oenologist David González defines PANCRUDO TERROIR SELECTION as a "village wine that portrays the unaltered expression of Garnacha". This wine begins in bush-trained Garnacha vines that are approximately 80 years old and are grown on various parcels around the village of Badarán, located in the Upper Najerilla Valley. This is a high elevation Garnacha, grown in a very cold region and rooted in North-facing slopes of red ferrous clay soil at an elevation of over 650 meters. This wine takes its name from the Pancrudo mountains of the Sierra de la Demanda that overlooks these vineyards.

Faithful to terroir

The 2013 vintage of PANCRUDO TERROIR SELECTION is limited to 3,202 bottles and perfectly reflects the philosophy behind the winery's collection of village wines that are faithful to their terroir and rooted in the land and local know-how of the most privileged areas in Rioja. This wine abounds with red fruits; it’s creamy and delicate, yet very fragrant. Subtle mineral notes also enhance this perfumed wine. Balanced, persistent, and with great acidity, this is an outstanding representative of the Garnacha grown in a cold area with an unusual soil for Rioja.
