Gómez Cruzado presents its redefined collection of terroir-driven fine wines of Rioja at Prowein

David González and Juan Antonio Leza are leading the new phase of this century-old winery

04 of March of 2015

Haro, March 2015 - Gómez Cruzado, a century-old winery in the Barrio de la Estación in Haro, will travel to the ProWein fair in Düsseldorf, Germany (15 - 17 March) to present its redefined collection of fine Rioja wines deeply tied to their terroir and crafted by this winery during a new production phase. David González and Juan Antonio Leza, two young oenologists and viticulture technicians at the helm of Gómez Cruzado, will discuss their work, starting off by highlighting the singularity of the winery's vineyards located in extremely privileged areas in terms of soil and climate. Gómez Cruzado will also participate in the seminar "Excellent Vintages", on 16 March (Añadas Excelentes) organized by the Rioja Regulatory Board, with their Gómez Cruzado Reserva 2005 - the winery's most emblematic wine and a true reflection of traditional fine wines.

David González Leza and Juan Antonio Leza will introduce their collection of wines - marked by origin and typicity, without compromising the fine wine style of Barrio de la Estación. The result is a range of fresh, fruity, subtle, balanced and complex wines with longevity and that age well in the bottle. Finesse, elegance and silkiness characterize this collection; the stand-out wine being Gómez Cruzado Reserva, which enjoys the good company of historic wines, like Honorable, and new reds such as Gómez Cruzado Vendimina Selecionada, and the single-varietal Viura white.

Another notable creation of this winery is Pancrudo, a Garnacha from Alto Najerilla, the most western corner of Rioja. This is the first edition of a collection of village wines, an indication of the winery's path ahead. These wines are faithful to their terroir and the know-how of locals from certain especially remarkable areas of the vast DO that is Rioja.
The heart of the Gómez Cruzado project is the small young vines of old bush-trained vineyards, which are located primarily on slopes across three perfectly defined areas: the foothills of Sierra Cantabria -Rioja Alavesa and Sonsierra-; central Rioja Alta where the Najerilla river meets the Ebro; and also in Rioja Alta, an area along the upper Najerilla river near Sierra de la Demanda.

A traditional fine wine from an outstanding vintage

David González and Juan Antonio Leza will share the philosophy of this century-old winery – which is currently under renovation - with opinion leaders and representatives from the sector at the “Excellent Vintages from Rioja" seminar. Gómez Cruzado Reserva will portray the essence of the traditional fine wine style from Barrio de la Estación through a vintage that simply must be remembered as it is one of the best in Rioja's wine-making history.

The Gómez Cruzado project will also be present at the tasting area of the Rioja Agricultural Council's stand. Gómez Cruzado Blanco 2013, Gómez Cruzado Vendimia Seleccionado 2013, and Gómez Cruzado Reserva 2008 will be served.
