Haro, 6 March 2018.- In a recently published report on Rioja, LUIS GUTIÉRREZ, the Spanish wine reviewer for ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE, praises the rebirth of GÓMEZ CRUZADO, one of the historical houses from the BARRIO DE LA ESTACIÓN in HARO, as “one of the most exciting developments in recent years”. GUTIÉRREZ notes that “GÓMEZ CRUZADO has shown the most progress in its wines out of all the wineries in the famous BARRIO DE LA ESTACIÓN in HARO”.

GUTIÉRREZ also raves that GÓMEZ CRUZADO “keeps improving with every vintage, thanks in good part to the hard work and vision of two winemakers/viticulture engineers, JUAN ANTONIO LEZA and DAVID GONZÁLEZ, and the grapes from almost 100 plots of vines in three zones: Rioja Alavesa and Sonsierra, Rioja Alta and Alto Najerilla, where they source Garnacha”.

GUTIÉRREZ titles his report on Rioja “The Wind of Change” which he explains has swept Rioja since August 2016. In addition to changes in regulations, GUTIÉRREZ also points to the revival of different styles of wine and varieties such as Garnacha: “Garnacha has definitively come out of its shell”. He goes one to say: “But Garnacha is not only excelling in warmer zones. There are also notable examples in higher altitudes and cooler parts, like the PANCRUDO 2015 SELECCIÓN TERROIR from GÓMEZ CRUZADO”.

The wine critic also showcases GÓMEZ CRUZADO'S TERROIR SELECTION, which comprises wines that convey their exceptional winegrowing landscapes, and the range and wealth of nuances found in this region that is small in size but vast in diversity.

The wine critic awards PANCRUDO 2015 SELECCIÓN TERROIR 94 points and deems it “a very good expression of Garnacha”. “It has good ripeness with balance and integrated oak perfectly folded into the juicy fruit, adding some spiciness and refined, soft tannins, with good consistency. Harmonious, elegant and pleasant”, applauds GUTIÉRREZ.

MONTES OBARENES 2014 is awarded 93 points and characterized as “very elegant and perfumed. It has varietal character and a very clean personality”.

GUTIÉRREZ also acknowledges the exceptional work of JUAN ANTONIO LEZA and DAVID GONZÁLEZ on the central portfolio of GÓMEZ CRUZADO. GUTIÉRREZ describes GÓMEZ CRUZADO BLANCO 2nd year  (91 points) as “very fresh and varietal, clean and balanced, with a pleasant faint bitterness on the finish. 2016 feels like a great vintage for whites”. The wine writer gives GÓMEZ CRUZADO VENDIMIA SELECCIONADA 2016  91 points and describes it as “a serious, austere, balanced yet approachable red”. He also celebrates its winemaking approach: “Bravo!” In addition, Gutiérrez grants RESERVA 2011 90 points.

“There’s more diversity than ever, not only in names but also in styles, in varietal wines and even in non-vintage blends! Rioja is capable of this diversity and more", salutes GUTIÉRREZ.
